In the first year - the propaedeutic year - you will complete two modules.
Knowledge of the basics of hospitality
In this module you will learn the basic concepts of operations management and management information systems. In our learning company Sibelicious on the campus of the BFH, you will immediately get into practice. You will gain experience in the areas of food courts, service desk, restaurant and kitchen. You organize events and receive and look after guests who come to the BUas every day for lunch, dinner, meetings or get-togethers.
Understand the hospitality management industry
In this module you will study Finance, Economics, Marketing, Law and Business Ethics and Investigative Skills. In this final course, you will learn how to set up and conduct surveys.
Everything you learn in the first year goes into the thesis. Together with some other students, you will develop the prototype of a "hotel lobby of the future".
- 2nd year (and part of 3rd year)
After the first year, the post-propaedeutic phase begins. It consists of two parts. Part I covers the 2nd year and the first semester of the 3rd year. Part II covers the rest to completion.
In Part I you will follow three modules.
develop people and organizations
In this module you mainly analyze the behavior of people and what it means for (working in) an organization.
Affairs:Organizational behavior, law and business ethics, research and design in economics.
Business performance and innovation management
In this module you will learn all about customer relations, service marketing and pricing strategies.
Affairs:Accounting, operations management, management information systems and marketing.
Exploring the international hotel industry
During this five-month internship, you will experience what it is like to live and work abroad in an intercultural hospitality industry.
You can only travel to countries where it is safe. Guidelines have been created for this. A FH spokesman always comes by to find out how things are going. To make this possible, we have summarized the countries where you can complete an internship. Here they are (subject to change):
Belgium, France and Germany; Spain and Mallorca; England, Ireland and Scotland; Netherlands Antilles (Aruba, Bonaire); Malaysia (Kuala Lumpur) and Thailand (Bangkok); Australia and New Zealand; South Africa (Cape Town Region); United Arab Emirates (Dubai, Abu Dhabi).
- 3rd year
In the second semester of year 3 you will take the module Creating Excellence in Hospital Management. It's about strategic management. With the research skills you have developed, you will design strategic opportunities for companies. You will apply everything you have learned in the previous modules in the area of strategy and politics.
- 4th year
In the final year you write your thesis and can choose other study components such as a minor subject, additional internship, preparation of an expert opinion or business plan. For your thesis and for the optional part, you naturally choose a topic (or a context that suits you!) Your study coach will support you and accompany you until you defend your thesis.
The BFH offers all students the opportunity to complete the scientific pre-master's degree in their last year of studyStrategic corporate management and marketing(SBM) below. Throughout your studies, you will continue to develop your personal and professional skills in the Management Development Program. You do this together with your study coach.
Topics covered in this program include report writing and citing sources, digital skills and working with specific computer programs, time management, communication skills, teamwork, learning styles and leadership styles. In the final stages of the program, the focus shifts to the professional field, where decision-making, leadership, negotiation and entrepreneurship are important themes.
Part of the management development program is your personal development plan. You do it yourself and your study coach will help you. You and your team use this plan to review the course and development of your studies.

- Three-year course for pre-university students
As a pre-college student, you can earn your bachelor's degree in hospitality management with HBO in 3 years. That saves a year of time and tuition fees! Even if you have already completed a preparatory year in another (business) program, you can complete this course in 3 years.
You will start in the second year and receive additional tuition and study materials to master the material of the first year. Getting into the hospitality industry that freshman students already have is given hands-on treatment at the Sibelicious training company.
- Tailor-made program for havists
You've just graduated from HAVO and want to work in the hospitality industry, but you think the move from HAVO to HBO is a bit too big. Or maybe you are not directly authorized with your profile. Then a tailor-made program could be something for you.
What does this custom process entail? You start your MBO training in hospitality at De Rooi Pannen in Tilburg. After two years, you will complete the Hospitality Entrepreneur/Manager degree (MBO Level 4). You then continue your studies in Buas. Read how hereTailor-made program for havistsIt works out.

You will travel three times during your studies. You will learn how things are in the hospitality industry. You feel and see the theory reflected in practice.
Study trip in the propaedeutic year
The main goal of your first year trip is to show you the field of international hospitality and to familiarize you with everything that happens in it. During the trip you will learn everything about hospitality, service concepts, intercultural aspects and sustainable development in your future work environment.
During the trip you will of course see and hear a lot. You will also meet professionals from the sector. You have to collect all these experiences yourself and see what you make of it and what you can learn from it.
Study trips after the preparatory year
You start with a so-called “wine tour”. Now you will experience everything you learned in the Wines and Spirits course in practice and (if you are over 18 years old) of course too! Which techniques are used, are the guidelines for the beverage sector (wines and spirits) observed, what do you drink with which dish? You will experience everything.
Finally, there is a third excursion. You will experience this together with students of the International Facility Management course. Above all, you will learn how certain topics such as finance, marketing, revenue management and sustainability are related.
The hospitality course is of course super international. By participating in an exchange program you can come up with something additional.
If you study hotel management with us, you can study abroad at one of our partner universities for a while. We organize exchange programs with universities

Here's an overview of what you can do to get your bearings.Your way to BUas
A connector that drives lasting change
At EVENT Hotels I have evolved from a coordinating to a more strategic role. I show that corporate responsibility goes well together… with commercial goals. For example, I try to get people to take a critical look at the food chain and fight food waste. I see myself as a link. You have to dare to talk about it, I learned that at the FH. During the reflective class I learned to understand the behavior and adjust my communication accordingly. I now use this in my stakeholder presentations.
Graduated, now works as a project manager at EVENT Hotels
Exactly the combination I was looking for!
This training offered me opportunities to develop further in the field of sustainability. Wrote a business plan with focus… a sustainable company in the hospitality industry and researched the reduction of food waste in restaurants. For me personally exactly the combination I was looking for!
Still part of the BUas family
Eight years after graduating, I'm still part of the BUas family. Whether it's a networking event in Berlin or Dubai, giving a lecture or supervising students. No other hotel… The school has the same warmth and coziness as the BUs.
